On Thursday, May 15, 2014, nearly 400 guests gathered for the Women & Science Lecture and Luncheon at The Rockefeller University. The speaker for the 17th annual lecture was Rockefeller’s own Elaine Fuchs, Ph.D., a stem cell biologist recruited to RU through the generosity of W&S donors over a decade ago to fill the newly created Rebecca C. Lancefield professorship for a trailblazing female faculty. Dr. Fuchs, who heads the Robin Chemers Neustein Laboratory of Mammalian Cell Biology and Development, has demonstrated throughout her career the enormous potential of stem cells and regenerative medicine, and delivered a lecture on her research and its implications to a rapt audience of New York City’s most prominent businesswomen, philanthropists, and fellow scientists. Rockefeller President Marc Tessier-Lavigne hosted the program and paid tribute to the University’s outstanding female researchers, as well as the many volunteers who have made Women & Science a vibrant initiative.
