Over 200 guests attended the presentation of the 2010 Pearl Meister Greengard Prize held at The Rockefeller University on November 16, 2010. Given annually, the award was established by Dr. Paul Greengard and his wife, Ursula von Rydingsvard, to increase recognition of the accomplishments of women in the sciences. The evening began with a thought-provoking talk by guest speaker and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC, Andrea Mitchell, who described the challenges she herself had faced as a woman breaking into a male-dominated field. Then she and University President, Dr. Paul Nurse, presented the awards to the year’s winners, Drs. Mary Claire King and Janet D. Rowley for their groundbreaking work on cancer genetics. A fascinating discussion between the award winners and Dr. Nurse followed.
