Partners in Discovery, the philanthropic program of Women & Science, has raised over $22 million for talented women pursuing careers in the sciences at The Rockefeller University. To date, donors to Partners in Discovery have established the Rebecca C. Lancefield Professorship for a senior woman scientist, funded educational opportunities for young women in Rockefeller's summer research programs for high school and college students, and created seed funds for research related to cancer, neuroscience, and global health. Supporters have contributed $5.1 million to establish the Fund for Interdisciplinary Research on Breast Cancer. Women & Science has also provided crucial support for more than 180 postdoctoral and graduate fellowships and underwritten the cost of initiatives to fund faculty recruitment, the Child and Family Center, career development, and pre-Ph.D. education.
Women & Science 2014–2015 Fund to Recruit Women Faculty
At the Convocation ceremony in June 2015, The Rockefeller University will honor the Women & Science Founding Chairs—Lydia Forbes, Isabel Furlaud, Nancy Kissinger, and Sydney Shuman—with the David Rockefeller Award for Extraordinary Service, the University’s highest honor bestowed on its volunteers.
In celebration of our Founding Chairs, contributions to Partners in Discovery this year will support the creation of a Fund to Recruit Women Faculty. All new and increased gifts to the initiative will be matched by a $1.2 million challenge grant launched by our “Terrific Twelve” supporters: Miriam Ochshorn Adelson, M.D., Shahla and Hushang Ansary, Anne T. and Robert M. Bass, Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Forbes, Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis, Robin Chemers Neustein, David Rockefeller, Janet C. Ross, Sydney R. and Stanley S. Shuman, the Simons Foundation, Marc Tessier-Lavigne, Ph.D. and Mary Hynes, Ph.D., and Lulu and Anthony Wang.
